Luxury fireplace styles to include in your home design

|

In this blog we unpack four types of luxury fireplaces you can feature in your home and how to aesthetically harmonise them with your interior styling. Check out our previous blog to discover more about the functional aspects of these fireplaces.

Built In Fireplace

Built in fireplaces are installed in a wall to create more of a seamless and streamline look. With any fireplace, it’s important to consider the functional configuration of a room and the position of the fire. Reflect on how you will live in the space.  Would you prefer the fireplace in the family room, for cosy winter nights, or in the dining room, providing mealtimes with a warmer atmosphere? It’s all about your lifestyle and how you plan on utilising your fireplace. The same goes for the type of fireplace you select. Built in fireplaces work well with most fireplace types, such as wood-burning, gas and electric.

In terms of interior styling and the material selections of your fireplace, it can be difficult to decide on the interior styling before seeing the finished space. Built in fireplaces should aim to blend with the rest of colour selections throughout the home. Without prior design experience it can be daunting to decide on something so permanent. Our designers would recommend choosing materials that will complement other parts of your home. For example, if your standout piece in the living room is a beautifully designed couch, choose materials that support your focal point using complementary colours and textures.

Double Sided Fireplace

Double sided fireplaces are a great inclusion to a home, that provide a sleek and show-stopping addition. These are especially well-featured, when they are decided upon in conjunction with the home design. By choosing a double-sided fireplace in the planning stage of your project, our designers can ensure that it’s placed in a position that works best for your home. Its all about the layout of your existing floor plan. This could be included between a living room and a dining room, to provide warmth to the most-used entertaining spaces.

These fireplaces can be wood-burning; however, they are most commonly featured with a gas-burning function, as they are much easier to maintain. This may increase costs of purchase and installation, due to the complex design, so ensure you consider the size and position for the home. Overall, double sided fireplaces add a sleek and intricate feature to your home.

Free Standing Fireplace

Free standing fireplaces are one of the most common fireplaces designs you could have for your home. These are placed on top of a hard floor and run through the ceiling and into a flue. They are a great addition if you wish to feature the fireplace itself in your space, opposed to a piece of furniture. They are most commonly placed in corners and against a main wall. However, because of their simple installation process, they can be featured in more areas, rather than a simple built in fireplace.

Our designers would recommend featuring these sorts of fireplaces in a central part of a room. This could be in the centre of a main wall or ensuring that your furniture directs the focus to the fireplace, through line of sight. For example, if all the furniture in your living space is targeted towards a television, it will distract from the fire. Play with room configurations and figure out how to get the best of both worlds when it comes to entertainment and room aesthetics. Styling these fireplaces can be made easy by matching the fireplace to your other fixtures and fittings. For example, if you choose to include matte black cabinetry handles, choosing a black free-standing fireplace, is a simple way to link the kitchen and living areas.

Suspended Fireplace

Suspended fireplaces are relatively new and ultra-modern way to heat your home. They are a great way to add an intricate design aspect and feature a high-end inclusion. These are especially well suited to modern homes that feature other luxury inclusions. Suspended fireplaces can be made in a range of different shapes and sizes, all of which bring diverse experiences to a living space. These also come in several models that can be spun to direct the heat to a specific zone. For example, if your suspended fireplace was featured between a living and dining space, you could move the open side of the fire to be facing the zone in which you are currently seated. This is a very innovative idea for heating your home, and a great way to bring wow-factor to your interior styling.

Because of their uniqueness, suspended fireplaces often come at a higher cost of purchase and installation. So, make sure you fully understand where you would like the fireplace to be installed and how you can harmonise your heating with your interior designs. One way you can do this, is through researching other examples of these styles being used. Below, we have linked one of our Pinterest Boards, which highlight our Designers favourite examples.
