Everything you need to know about Modern Gable Homes

|

Modern Gable homes have been a huge design trend throughout 2019, we only expect this to become of greater popularity throughout 2020. Its classic, yet ultra-modern design is truly captivating. We hope the following blog helps you become informed about Modern Gable homes, and our 3 tips help you nail the design trend.

What is a Gable Roof?

Gable Roofs are a timeless roof design. Essentially these roofs are pitched in the centre with sloped sides, which then meet along a central ridge, creating a triangular prism like structure. Within this shape, there are more specific gable styles, such as an open gable, and box gable. Open gable roofs are unique to the way that the roof and home meet. The vertical wall at the end of the roof is completely flat, and its form is uninterrupted. A box gable describes the join between the roof and the home. A box gable would appear as a triangle stacked on a square, whereas an open gable would appear more like a pentagon.

The two, front-facing gable roofs included in the design of our ‘Karinya’ home would be an example of a open gable, as there is no visible break between the roof pitch and the ground.

What is a Modern Gable home?

Modern gable homes are quite simply housing that includes or features gable roofs. These designs have gained popularity recently for their timeless and classic look. Modern Gable homes combine the traditional aspects of gable roofs, whilst including other elements that are associated with modern homes. For example, our Gorgeous Gables home is considered to be a Modern Gable home. You will notice that this home is far from your standard, pentagonal shaped home. Its design pushed the boundaries of a gable home, by adding more than one roof gable, choosing modern materials, and a neutral colour palette. The resulting home is anything but simple.

3 Design tips for creating a Modern Gable home:

  1. Work with a building designer to ensure your design is true to a Modern Gable home

Without enlisting the help of a designer that is experienced in creating the design that you wish to achieve, you run the risk of completely missing the mark. Ensure that the companies you are working with have examples of their handiwork, that align with your vision. Here at Atria Designs we have over 10 years of industry experience, meaning we are familiar with the components of Modern Gable Homes, and many other home styles.

  1. Utilise the space created by a Modern Gable roof

Due to the shape of a Modern Gable home, ensure you ask your designer to take advantage of the roof space. This could be utilised by having high decorative ceilings, extra storage in an attic space, or even squeezing in that extra bedroom, in the form of a loft space.

  1. Ensure that your interior styling is harmonious with the home design

It’s important to not neglect your interior styling and balance focusing on both the interior and exterior design. An interior designer can assist in ensuring that your terrific home design is matched with a beautiful interior.
