Material Series: When should I use render?

|

Render refers to the application of cement to external walls, on top of brick or concrete. It is a simple façade material that can bring a classic and clean look to any home. Render is terrific in conjunction with other materials, as it provides the perfect aesthetic base to build upon.

Using cladding in a traditional home

Traditional homes captivate the most popular and prevalent design styles of the time period. This style refers to the most common design features among Australia’s residential builds. Render can be used in this style alone, to take it back to basics and provide a sleek and clean finish. Render is also terrific if you plan on including multiple materials in your façade. It is a great way to harmonise feature stone, brick and cladding. By choosing your feature materials, then deciding on a complementary coloured render, you can ensure your facade will be cohesive.

Using cladding in a contemporary home

Contemporary homes include more modern features. They focus on the sleek and clean aesthetic that has become ever-so-popular these past years. Contemporary homes are what could usually be described as a ‘modern home’, for their simple design and classic lines. Contemporary homes are great for including render in your façade. Their classic and respectable design features mean that your façade doesn’t require too many colours and materials to be brilliant. Because these homes are so elegant, we would suggest sticking with 2 – 3 options, in order to fully showcase the clean lines and minimalism.  This can be seen in our gorgeous Monterno Home. These classic colours allow for the design to prevail. The choice of render also allows for the feature stone to really pop.

Using cladding in an ultra-modern home

Ultra-Modern homes are all about showcasing the most innovative and forward-thinking design styles of the current period. Render can be encapsulated in this style because of its classic and timeless nature, meaning, it is a valuable option for any facade. Like Contemporary Homes, Ultra-Modern homes don’t require multiple materials to shine. For these houses, render is a great way to incorporate sleek and minimalist aspects to the facade. Minimalism, is the movement in art, characterised by simple forms. The idea that something of a basic or timeless nature, can be carefully included to enhance the facade positively. This style also doesn’t have to include high-end and luxurious inclusions to be considered an Ultra-Modern.  They can be created with the same materials as Traditional and Contemporary Homes, the design aspect is what needs to be focused upon. This further emphasises the importance of having a high-quality bespoke design. Quality designs is what we specialise in at Atria Designs.
